Abijata-Shala National Park

Abijata-Shala National ParkThis park is located in the heart of the Ethiopian rift valley. It covers an area of more than 880km2. It was established to protect both the beautiful landscape and over 300 species of birds inhabiting in the area. The common types of trees are: Savannah, Acacia forests, thorny scrub. Its name is derived from the two salty water Lakes Abiyata and Shala which are found with in the park.

Simen National Park

This park is registered as the world’s heritage site by UNESCO. It is located in Semen Mountains. It covers an area of 180km2 and situated between 4430 & 1900meters. .Semen means “north” in Amharic, which means the park, was named after the position it occupies in the Gondar massif, one of the highest in Africa.

Nech Sar National Park

Nech Sar National ParkNech Sar means in Amharic “white grass”, which is in reference to the great plain which covers 514km2 of habitat of Savannah with different types of Acacias. This park was created to protect the endemic Swayne’s hartebeest. This large antelope measures approximately 1.3meters and weighs between 125kg and 250kg. It has dark chocolate color, and elongated face. The horns start close together at the base curving twice out wards to the end and the horn is marked by ring.

The park covers an area of 2470km2 and in the altitudinal range of (1500-4400) meters, which provides a unique diversity of; landscape, vegetation and fauna. Mago National Park

Mago National ParkThis park is located to the east of Omo National Park. It covers an area of 2160km2, and made up of savannah plains at an altitude of 450meters and deserts that stretch from the border of the park to Lake Turkana. It is surrounded by crest and undulating hills, with the Mago River and its tributaries meandering among the small valleys. Mount Mago crowns the park to the north with a height of 1350 meters. Although the park was created to protect the bigger mammals like Elephants, Giraffes, Leopard, Lions and Buffalo; one can also see Cheetah, Zebras and Greater and Lesser Kudus.
