Seimen Mountains National Park

Simen National Park

This park is registered as the world’s heritage site by UNESCO. It is located in Semen Mountains. It covers an area of 180km2 and situated between 4430 & 1900meters. .Semen means “north” in Amharic, which means the park, was named after the position it occupies in the Gondar massif, one of the highest in Africa.



The park is very interesting and worth visiting due to the uniqueness of its endemic animals, the beauty of its flora and the majesty of its landscape. This park is inhibited by the famous walia ibex (can be seen above an altitude of 2500meters), Gelada baboon (can be seen at an altitude of 2000-4000meters), semen wolf, and other mammals also. Approximately 50 different birds’ species were also identified & birds that migrate from Europe and Africa are also seen here.

In addition to mammals and birds the park is vegetated with different kinds of plants. There are three marked botanical areas in the park. The highest parts have meadows with little vegetation, afro alpine zones (lobelia rhynchopetalun, small groups of perpetual flowers, Helichrysum and the striking Kinophfia foliose Etc...)
